Cacimbo

Our Cacimbo Program seeks to generate awareness on past, present and future aspects of Angolan arts, design, cultures, histories and identities by investigating and sharing the diversity and continuity of our cultural thinking and expressions.

It centers on an independent experimental research project initiated by Lugânzi, co-participated by anyone interested in working on these topics. Through our Open Calls, we invite potential collaborators to our workshops, which are focused on transmitting research theory and practice and developing research concepts, methods and tools as a joint effort.

Running during the dry season (Cacimbo) to facilitate mobility within peripheral neighborhoods, Cacimbo Program takes place both at Ulônga and in the participants’ communities, as self-guided research. The preliminary outcomes of the research are shared with the participant communities in the form of an artistic intervention aiming to have lasting multipliable impact, supported by our public spaces Mobile Realities.

The final results of every research project are presented in the platform Think Tank in a digital publication available for free download.

Cacimbo Program Season I (2020) kick-started with the project Urban Colors.
